Surprise Inspection: One Fifth of Commercial Vehicles Removed from Service for Safety Violations

08.2.2017

On May 3rd, 2017 officials from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) conducted an unannounced inspection of 9,500 commercial vehicles across 33 states in the U.S., as well as in Canada. The inspection was in observance of Brake Safety Day, a joint initiative between the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

According to an announcement released July 12th, a total of 21% of vehicles inspected (approximately 1,989 vehicles) were removed from service post-inspection due to violations. Out of the 21% removed from service, 12% were placed out of service for brake-related violations. This close safety regulation is part of the CVSA’s Operation Airbrake Program, which deals specifically with antilock braking system (ABS) violations. The next Brake Safety Day is scheduled to take place September 7, 2017. For more details on the CVSA report, click here.

At Kenco, safety is a top priority. We will continue to strive to exceed industry standards on vehicle performance and provide excellent service for all your large load transportation needs.
